Recent Class Highlights: Barton Springs University 2015
Griffin AP Environmental Science students spent a day in the fall at Barton Springs University, a day of outdoor learning at Barton Springs Pool. The event featured teaching sessions on a wide range of topics including the hydrogeology of the Edwards Aquifer, salamander habitat restoration, water quality, water policy in a changing climate, and the history of Zilker Park. Presenters include professors from the University of Texas and Texas State University, staff from the City of Austin’s Watershed Protection and Parks and Recreation Departments, the Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District, the US Geological Survey, and local elected officials. The event also included a flow measurement demonstration in Barton Creek below the pool, morning snorkeling tours, an environmental organization fair and an artist painting a storm drain as part of the city’s Storm Drain Exhibit Project.
