Sculpting the Portrait in Clay

Instructor: Katherine Graham
DescriptionThis course is a study of form, proportion, and scale of the human head. Working from photographs, mirror reflections, and student drawing, students create a 3D portrait in clay. The sculpture may be of themselves, a friend or family member, or a completely invented character. Ideas of style, innovation, and abstraction are included through the sculptural process. The sculptural ‘bust’ will be 1/2 actual size and finished with mixed media (paint, found materials, innovative objects of texture) of the student’s choice.
