Director: Ryan Young & Akina Adderley
Description: This elective is designed for advanced musicians who are serious about their craft. The class will require students to learn songs quickly and to practice their individual parts at home. Class meetings are generally for group rehearsal, so prior independent study/practice is mandatory. In addition, students will be expected to participate in a number of performances both on and off campus (approximately three per semester), representing the vibrant spirit of our school community. Experienced musicians who are solid players/singers are encouraged to apply. Students will be selected based on a variety of factors including instruments needed for the current band, reliability, musical skill level, performance ability, experience, and ability to collaborate with others. New members are required to audition. Auditions will be held on Monday, August 14th, between 2:00 and 4:00pm. Please contact Akina Adderley (firstname.lastname@example.org) to schedule your time. For audition material, any musical style is fine. Vocalists can sing a capella, accompany themselves, or use a karaoke track. Please be prepared to play through an entire song. If you are unable to make our scheduled audition block, please submit a video audition to Akina by uploading it to WeTransfer or Dropbox and emailing it from there. Prerequisites: Foundations of Music and Music Performance Ensemble, or teacher approval (based on assessment). For students who want to aim for this class in the future, we will be offering private lessons after school with music teachers who can support individuals in developing basic skills to prepare for this class.
