Intro to Graphic Design & Digital Illustration

Instructor: Eric Sylvester
Description: This class will introduce students to the fundamentals of graphic design and digital illustration as they’re applied in a professional commercial setting. Everything we consume, be it a product on a shelf, a website or app, or an ad, will go through a designer or illustrator before it reaches us. Lessons will include brainstorming with ink blots and abstract shapes to design logos and characters, sketching out ideas, photo manipulation, typography, and using Adobe Photoshop to create original designs and illustrations. Students will choose from four final projects — MoviePoster, Book Cover, Album Cover, or Branding Guide. Photoshop and personal laptops that can run the program will be required for the class. While not necessary, it is helpful to use a mouse or drawing tablet (Wacom Bamboo, Huion etc.)
