Music History and Analysis

InstructorFrederico Geib
DescriptionFrom Beethoven to the Beastie Boys, from Franz Schubert to Franz Ferdinand, from Austin, TX to Aboriginal Australia, this class is a highly dynamic survey course designed to engage musicians and non-musicians alike in the universal language and history of music. Students taking this class will become stronger listeners, gain essential historical context and stylistic knowledge of music while also making parallels across time and cultures. A little singing, composing and a little percussion/midi keyboard playing will sometimes be part of this class. Basic music theory concepts and ideas will be constantly referenced as we perform listening, aural and written analysis of music of distinct styles and origins. An essential class for all those interested in deepening their love and knowledge of music.
