Griffin Theatre: A Community Full of Talent and Heart

There is something about working together to pull off a theatre production - it's a huge multifaceted operation with some pretty complicated logistics. It's full of emotion and can be really stressful at times. But there is nothing that creates a more meaningful bond between people than the kind of effort that good theatre requires - working together in a group to create something surprising and beautiful, supporting and trusting each other, being part of a true ensemble. That's the kind of authentic community that exists in Griffin School Theatre.

There are many points of entry into theatre at Griffin School including elective courses and workshops, scene performances and full-scale play prouctions. There are roles for experienced actors and for students who have never been on stage. And there are important roles for students who want to work on tech elements, set design, costumes, audio and visual, stage managing, and directing. Every student is part of the emsemble that comes together to support the whole.

Full-Scale Play Productions

Each semester, our theatre department brings a new production to the stage. All students are invited to audition, and we find roles that allow everyone to contribute. Rehearsals are after school throughout the semester. There are leadership roles for assistant directing, and tech roles for those who prefer to be behind the scenes. Plays are open to the public, so check our events calendar and reserve your spot for the next one! To view recent productions, take a look at our YouTube channel.

But wait, there's more!

In addition to the play production program, there are elective theatre classes offered throughout the school year. In our once per week workshop period, students can take an introductory, process-oriented actor's workshop to build skills and gain confidence in theatrical storytelling. In our twice-per-week elective course slot, experienced theatre students can focus on public performance work, ensemble building, and developing a personal craft in a course focused on contemporary theatre.
